What Are the Healthiest Ways to Drink Tea?
We all know that certain teas are healthier than others, but regardless of what type of tea you drink, how do you get the most benefits from it? While some people love iced tea, they are not big fans of hot tea. Does the way you drink your tea make all that much of a difference or is it the same regardless?
The most beneficial way to drink tea is to drink it hot. Now everyone realizes that the modern day schedule does not always lend itself to that, but there are things that you can do to still get a lot of the benefits if you cannot manage to drink it right after steeping into hot water. While you will not get the maximum benefits, you are still getting some of the rewards of drinking tea
One of the reasons that tea is so healthy is because of the antioxidants that are present. These antioxidants are very reactive and when the tea is fresh, they are at their height. Something that can be done to prolong their existence is merely adding lemon to the water. This will give the antioxidants a longer “shelf life” and even if your tea cools down and you have to reheat it, the bulk of the antioxidants will remain alive and well for you.
When brewing green tea, you have to be careful not to “bulk steep” the tea. What I am referring to here is making big batches of tea. While this is fine for black teas, green tea does not hold up to this and you lose a lot of the benefits when brewing this way. It is best served when steeped one cup at a time. There are specific tea kettles that will allow you to do this if you are using leaves.
While you will still get some of the benefits of tea if you drink it cold, it is not nearly as effective when it is ingested hot and fresh. If you find it a challenge, invest in a thermal mug or travel pot that will allow you to carry it with you and keep it fresh for several hours. This will enable you to keep the antioxidants fresh and alive and allow you to get the maximum benefits from your cup of tea.
