Tea continues it rise in popularity for not only its health benefits, but for its new found flexibility with different foods. While it matches up well with many entrees and desserts, people do not realize that it is extremely easy to pair up with your cheese course as well. From the newly popular white teas to the more traditional black teas, there is a cheese that goes with it perfectly.

Green Tea is very low in tannins and requires that it be matched with something mild. Asiago Pressato is the perfect match. Make sure you get the right version of Asiago as it is also available in a more aged version that is dry and crumbly. You will find this cheese used often in Panini’s and other popular Italian sandwiches.

Assam is a black tea that has a noticeable malty characteristic about it. It has a beautifully rich bouquet that entices the palate. Goat cheese is a very nice companion with the soft texture and mildly tart taste. The tea will rip through the creaminess and cleanse the palate so you can enjoy every bite.

Darjeeling is another black tea that pairs very well with cheese. This is a bold tea with a distinctive flavor that is very fresh and lively. Brie will go perfectly with this as it is very creamy and will load up your palate with its heavier texture. The Darjeeling will also hold up nicely to the flavor of the rind on the cheese.

While these are only 3 pairings, there is literally a tea for any of your favorite cheeses. There is no need to follow the crowd and automatically go for a glass of wine when you are a tea lover. If tea is indeed what you truly love, then pair it up during this course and enjoy it like you have never before.
