What Kind of Coffee Table Should I Buy?
It seems like such a simple decision, yet people can make it a very painful one. So that you have the right table to enjoy your coffee at when everyone breaks from the dinner table, we have put together a few helpful tips to make your decision a little easier. While this is not a be all and end all guide, it should get you pointed in the right direction.
Before you even start looking at coffee tables
, you need to look at two things: How much room do you have and do you have young children? The first of these questions is important because you don’t want to fall in love with a table that will not fit. The second is important because certain designs are all but out of the question if you have some little ones running around the house.
Once you get the size narrowed down, you can move onto the kids. If you don’t have them, the world is your oyster. If you do, tables that have sharp corners and that are made of metal and glass can pretty much be thrown out the window.
The corners kind of speak for themselves in that if the child falls, you do not want any part of their body coming down on an edge. You also have to be careful of the material as wood will be a little more forgiving than metal and will not break like glass can if they come down on it. At least with a rounded wood table, they will probably end up with nothing more than a bump.
Now that you have the tough decisions out of the way, the rest is easy. Head out to the store and find something that won’t hurt the kids and is about half the size of your couch or sofa. If you plan on using it for some storage
, get one with drawers in it so you don’t have a clutter build up underneath the coffee table
. Then the only thing left to do is host a dinner party. When everyone is ready for coffee, break to your new show piece and have them drool with envy.
