The Crooked Tree Coffee House in St. Charles, Missouri resembles an extra large family room with a coffee bar. The room is spacious, yet cozy with plenty of seating whether at tables or on a comfortable sofa. Both the patrons and staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is definitely child-friendly. You can also count on two parking lots, free Wi-Fi, plenty of outlets for your computer, and good coffee.
The Crooked Tree has a more extensive menu than most coffee houses provide, including serving real breakfast. You can opt for a bagel, a blueberry scone or cinnamon roll, but you can also order French toast. A cheese omelet, a breakfast quesadilla, and several types of breakfast sandwich allow for plenty of choices. It is a nice change from the standard sugar and starch fare normally served in coffee houses.
Lunch, too, consists of choices including items you might not expect outside of a sit-down restaurant. The “Ol Philli” Wrap, for instance, contains grilled beef, onions, and mushrooms. The Cajun Chicken Sandwich and the Italian Hoagie are also unusual foods to see available at a coffee house. Additionally, they carry vegetarian options that are more than just a salad, which is something hard to find at times.
The Crooked Tree is available to cater breakfast or lunch with a minimum order of six meals. They prefer that you order the day before, or at least my 10:00am to give them preparation time. The delivery hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm and there is no fee within city limits. They offer a nice selection of trays, each serving 10 people, which is convenient for meetings and small parties.
The Crooked Tree Coffee House is named for the crooked tree near the corner where the coffee house is located. Legend says that a compassionate Indian chief was laid to rest there and the tree is bent in mourning. The tree attracts many visitors to photograph it, particularly when it flowers in spring.
