Can Starbuck’s Provide a Sound Track for your Life?
Do you sometimes think your life might be easier if you could set it to music the way they do in movies? I don’t mean whipping out your mp3 player and picking the right track for running on your treadmill. I mean music to match what’s happening right that moment simply switching on at then and there. What music would be appropriate for your life?
Maybe you want to walk back to the office to burn off the calories you just consumed at lunch. You’re filling full and a little sluggish, though, and you don’t really want to do it. Would it help your legs to move a little faster if you could hear some music that matches the rhythm of your walk, something like the Bee Gees singing “Stayin’ Alive”?
What if you’ve put together a great presentation for a potential new client? You know you’ve done outstanding work and the client would be a fool to choose any firm but yours. You walk into the client’s office with your presentation board under your arm, your laptop with your Power Point program in the other and see half a dozen representatives of other companies waiting to be seen too. Wouldn’t it help keep your confidence in tact if the sounds of Queen’s “We will Rock you” suddenly filled the room? When you got the job, would your ideal triumph music be “We are the Champions”?
Suppose you work very late one night and everyone else in your office has gone home? You take the elevator to the underground garage where you parked your car this morning. You step off the elevator into a nearly deserted garage and start walking to your car, which is somewhere in the middle of the nearly empty floor. Wouldn’t it be nice if an orchestra played some of that creepy movie music before they guy hiding behind the van jumps out and mugs you for your wallet?
How about a personal theme song? You could have your personal lyrics paired with a familiar tune. The song would be about what was in your life. It would even have your name sung repeatedly. You could listen to your own personal song of encouragement as you completed your daily tasks, just like Glenn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxjZcDTTlEU).
