Murdoch Perk is more than just a place to drop by and have a great cup of coffee. It is a cozy place to meet with friends and talk about what is on your mind. The wooden fireplace against the brick wall creates an aura of comfort and warmth that calls you closer. Comfortable upholstered chairs that curve in an arc around it invite you to sit and sip in leisure.

The brother and sister team Ed and Stephanie own and operate Murdoch Perk in the Southampton neighborhood of St. Louis. In 2006, they renovated a former dry cleaner’s building with exposed bricks, new floors, and dark wood trim. They opened their newly refurbished establishment at the end of October that year, to the delight of local residents. They have been serving great food and Kaldi’s locally produced coffee to happy customers ever since.

You can order the standard coffee bar style drinks here, but their drink menu also carries some uncommon choices. In addition to the usual lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos, you can get a turtle latte and Aztec hot chocolate. The smoothies and granitas menu includes chocolate covered strawberry, mango madness, and mochaccino granita. Murdoch Perk also carries desserts and snacks appropriate with coffee and tea.

However, Murdoch Perk’s most outstanding feature is their cafe menu, which includes breakfast served all day. The breakfast menu contains items such as French toast, Belgian waffles, steak and eggs, and fruit and yogurt parfait. The real standout item, though, is the Southwestern crepe filled with scrambled eggs, peppers, cheese, and onions, topped with salsa. If you want a smaller meal, try the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant, with or without the potatoes.

Their sandwich menu is equally enticing with some choices you may find interesting. They serve the Southwestern chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread, uncommon with these flavors. They top the chipotle turkey with cheese and serve it on toasted whole grain bread. The zesty beef wrap contains spiced beef, vegetables, cheese, and horseradish sauce in a tortilla. The gem of the menu is the St. Louis cheese steak with stone ground mustard and served on sourdough bread.

Murdoch Perk is located at 5400 Murdoch Avenue, St. Louis, MO, 63109, phone (314)752-9126. Their hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They have free Wi-Fi and ample seating inside and on the patio in nice weather. Whether you are looking for lunch, breakfast or just good up of coffee, you will enjoy Murdoch Perk.
