The healing powers of tea are posted everywhere, including this site, but it is a rare case that you hear about coffee being used for its healing powers. Well look no more as some research has recently been done that shows Hepatitis C patients actually benefited from the consumption of coffee.

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, this is actually a true story. The NCI (National Cancer institute) conducted a study and 53% of the patients that had Hepatitis C were found to have decreased liver disease progression than those that did not drink coffee. Oddly enough, they also tested patients that were green and black tea drinkers and they showed no similar signs.

This is a point that many have argued and no two people will ever agree on. They may agree on a region or a country, but everyone has a different blend to type of bean that they think is the best. We are always ready to add some fuel to the fire so here is our two cents as to where the best coffee comes from.

Are Caffeine Laced Drinks Going to Be Outlawed?

A recent ruling by the FDA may have all of us looking for our coffee flavored alcohol in other areas very soon if they have their way. Any alcoholic beverage that is caffeine laced may soon be pulled off the market. This topic has been getting a lot of press lately and many coffee flavored and “energy boosting” beverages run the risk of being pulled off the shelf.

The reason for this is that the FDA believes many of these beverages are being promoted as safe drinks. Meaning that because they have caffeine, they are more likely to keep the consumer awake than they are to make them tired as the evening goes on. It is actually reasonable when you really look at it and marketing companies may have dug themselves a hole here that they will not be able to get out of.

Many of these drinks don’t actually have coffee flavors in them, but it will affect the market. All one has to do to understand where this is coming from is to look at the rising counts of DUI’s among young drivers. One of the most popular drinks in any younger bar these days is vodka and Red Bull. They get their alcohol fix and think that because they are drinking Red Bull, that they will be able to party all night long. The repercussions of this speak for themselves.

The FDA has put out the mandate that all companies that are serving drinks that have caffeine in them have 30 days to prove to the FDA that their beverage is safe to consume. While all of this is going on, one cannot help but wonder if they will eventually forbid bars and restaurants to even carry and offer these types of combinations. This is just something for those of us that seek our caffeine in places other than coffee and tea to look out for.

Are Tea Tastings Becoming the New Wine Tastings?

The economy has a funny way of making things into a trend very quickly and while tea tastings are nothing new, they are all of a sudden becoming big business and very popular. In addition to enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea to get my day going, I am not above having a glass of wine with dinner each night. I quickly realized that I was craving more knowledge and starting hosting and attending just about any wine tasting that I could find.

Finding someone to come in to educate us was never a problem, but there were some significant fees involved and in most cases, we were also required to buy some wine from the vendor. Not much, but one or two bottles adds to the overall price. As the economy took a turn for the worse, we all had to cut back and this seemed liked the ideal place to cut costs because it was a true luxury.

I received in interesting email the other day from a friend that used to attend tastings with me and oddly enough, it was for a FREE tasting. In my excitement, I quickly accepted only to show up with a wine glass when I needed a tea cup. My friend had talked to a local tea shop owner and asked if they would not mind giving a tea party to explain the various teas that they had in their shop. They agreed and now instead of hoisting a wine glass, we were saluting with tea cups.

While I was a little hesitant at first, I quickly got involved and realized how great of an idea this was. The local shop owner was doing this after hours and was definitely creating a buzz about the different teas that they had. After some research, tea tasting are actually very popular now and even when they do charge, the prices are very reasonable. While the luxury of fine wines may only be for special occasions now, tea tasting can be done on a regular basis for not much cost. It is surely something to consider to get those taste buds excited again on a monthly basis.
