Borders Supports American Troops with Free Coffee
Imagine you’re in a foreign country, away from family, friends, and all things familiar to you. Wouldn’t it be great to have the comfort of something as familiar as coffee from home? Borders Book Stores is acting to assure that thousands of Americans in military service abroad have that small comfort.
It seems to have started in Antonio, Texas. Like all Borders Book Stores, store #476 contains a Seattle’s Best coffee shop. Every Friday they would offer their customers a free medium beverage if they bought a bag of coffee beans. Several months ago, they decided to give their customers a chance to donate their bags of coffee to Soldier’s Angels, a nonprofit organization that gives aid and comfort to American service men and women deployed overseas. It turned out that many of their customers were glad to do it. Soon they were collecting at least 25 bags of donated coffee a week.
The idea seems to have caught on. Now Borders Book Stores all across the country are offering their customers a chance to donate coffee to the troops not just at the Seattle’s Best shop, but at the check out counter as well. One store in particular appears to be having astounding success with this campaign.
